The Ellington Parks and Recreation Department has many activities for your family to enjoy.

We have programs that fit any child's interest or hobby. We welcome all children no matter their age or skill level.

Boys & Girls instructional youth basketball (4 years - 2nd grade)

Registration: October 1 - November 30, 2018 (Deadline 12 Noon) 
Saturday mornings at the Ellington Middle School.  Parent Volunteers are needed in order to provide a better Coach to Player ratio.
Dates:  December 8, 15; January 5, 12, 19, 26; February 2, 9
Fees: $40/1 child,   $55/2 children,   $67/3 or more children

Times:    2nd graders (as of 12/31/18)……….  8:30 - 9:30 am
               1st graders (as of 12/31/18)………..  9:30 - 10:30 am
                Kindergarten (as of 12/31/18) …….. 10:30 - 11:30 am

Recreation League Basketball for Grades 3-8

Registration: October 1 - November 30, 2018 (Deadline 12 Noon)
Games played on Saturdays and/or weeknights; times and locations pending final enrollment.
Fees:  $80/1 child,   $120/2 children,   $145/3 or more in family

Project STEM

STEM is all about cross curricular exploration and integration between the four foundations, and we want to show students how all of these fabulous concepts connect together. The program will be divided in four modules: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  Students will perform hands-on experiments to explore everything from Newton's law of motion, programming, simple machines, to learning Math in a creative way.
Tentative Dates/Times: September 26 - December 21 (10 weeks)
3:30 - 5:00 pm at Windermere School
Grades 1-3, Wednesdays                 Grades 4-6, Fridays
Fee: $150 per student - Registration Deadline: September 21

Parks & Recreation T-Ball Program

(Boys and Girls Ages 4 -5 years)
Age 4 in 2018 up to those who turned 5 years old before 12/31/2018
Saturday mornings 10:00 am -11:00 am @ Ellington High School Softball/Baseball Fields.
Cost: $25 per player (includes T-shirt)
Parent Volunteer Coaches are needed for this program. Participants must provide their own glove. NO WOOD OR METAL TBALL BATS ARE ALLOWED FOR THIS PROGRAM.

Players will be evaluated at an Evaluation Clinic in March.
Pre-Season Player Clinics will be scheduled in February/March, before the Evaluation Clinic.  All Clinics have limited space; signups will be offered during registration on a first-come, first-serve basis. Practices will begin sometime in early April depending on weather/field conditions.

Girls & Boys Spring Lacrosse Outdoor Program 

March 12 to June 10, 2018
The Recreation Department will be offering Spring Travel Teams for grades: 1st through 8th.  The registration deadline was January 31, 2018; all registrations going forward will be placed on a wait list/ based on roster availability. Please contact if you have interest in volunteering.
New information!
We anticipate the CT Youth Lacrosse League will move to a U-based system for deciding teams.  The following chart will help determine who is eligible for which team. Birth certificates are required before the start of the season.

Travel Guidelines
2018 playing time guidelines: The boys and girls Lacrosse programs will be considered “travel” programs during the 2018 season.  Current Town policy requires each player to receive a minimum of 25% playing time, per game; however, it is anticipated that every attempt will be made to increase playing time percentage over the course of the regular season.
Evaluation Session: The Recreation Department reserves the right to establish/schedule two evaluation sessions (based on enrollment) in order to provide/select balanced teams and assign teams to the appropriate levels of competition; Bantam, Junior and Senior levels.  It will be required that each player attend at least 1 of the 2 evaluation sessions. Time and location will be determined after registration closes.
Mandatory Parents Meeting: There will be mandatory parents/players meeting in March at the Ellington High School Auditorium Date & Time forthcoming, to review details and season expectations, costs, fundraising and rule changes for 2018.  
Lacrosse Equipment Required:
Girls: Stick, goggles, mouth guard and cleats
Boys: Helmet (black), mouth guard, shoulder & elbow pads, cleats, athletic supporter, gloves and regulation stick.
Season Practice Schedules:
Lightning’s practice 1-2 days per week
Bantams practice 2-3 days per week
Juniors and Seniors practice 3-5 days per week
Fees (Families with 3 or more participants will receive a $10 family discount per child.)
